Vtg Bavarian lidded stein, horses, barley, & hops - $10

1986 vintage Gerz bierkrug, in excellent condition - a collectible from a European trip, not used for drinking. [In the U.S, they're STEINS, short for "steingut", stoneware - the pottery they're made from. A full description would be something similar to, "steingut bierkrug mit zinndeckel".] No chips or cracks; no stains. Stoneware body, with a peaked cap & mounting of bright, 94% zinc. This stein features draft horses in harness on both sides, with decorative bands of hop blooms & leaves, top & bottom. The deep handle is patterned to mimic an antler; opposite the handle is a barley & hops "bouquet". $10, ca$h or PayPal - Please text to arrange pickup; my mobile is turned off at 10 PM, & turned on at 10 AM. OPTIONAL Bavaria is proud of their 500 YO "beer purity" law, requiring beer to be made with barley, hops, & water, since 1516. Thus brewers didn't compete with bakers for wheat or rye, needed for bread, & kept grain prices lower. It also prevented brewers adulterating their ales, porters, & lagers. [They did later permit wheat - but it must be labeled as such! - & yeast.] Without refrigeration, beer - which is a living thing - often spoiled, & unethical brewers would add stuff to mask off tastes & smells.
