Antique Biedermeier Secretary Swedish Desk Chest of Drawers C1880 Elm/Walnut 58"Hx32"Wx16"D Excellent condition Local pickup in Norwood Contact Mike at show contact info or email this ad An exceptional, authentic late 19th-century Swedish Biedermeier secretaire à abattant (fall-front secretary desk) that perfectly blends timeless functionality with the "quiet luxury" of classic Scandinavian design. The exterior boasts a striking, highly figured golden elm veneer that showcases a spectacular natural book-matched wood grain. The upper section features a large, beautifully framed fall-front panel outlined in a scalloped dark walnut border. When unlocked, this panel drops down smoothly to provide a sturdy, flat writing surface. The Interior Theater: Lowering the desk reveals an exquisitely preserved architectural interior. The center features a charming tabernacle cabinet framed by turned-wood pilaster columns. Flanking the center are ten small apothecary-style drawers boasting an elegant two-tone wood design with recessed oval panels and delicate turned wooden pulls. Storage & Craftsmanship: The lower half provides ample storage with three deep, full-width drawers. The entire facade is beautifully minimalist and hardware-free, relying on dark, ornate ebonized key escutcheons where the keys act as the handles. The chest rests on elegant, carved lion-paw style front feet. Authenticity Note: This is a true 19th-century period piece, confirmed by authentic hand-cut dovetail joints on the drawer chassis, original scribe marks from the master craftsman, and wide, naturally aged solid pine secondary woods.
