The listing
*** Our spacious and peaceful farm japanese maple nursery is open without appointment each week Thursdays thru Saturdays 10-4. We are located at 9921 36th ST NW, Gig Harbor, 98335, call or text anytime at show contact info *** The maple trees are glorious right now with their bright summer foliage, and this is a great time to select trees and plant them also Ryu sei, also commonly called Ryu sen, is a wonderfully unique japanese maple that grows with a central trunk and sends out long graceful vines of star-shaped leaves. Its name means "Falling Waters" In its natural untrained form, it makes a soft mound in the landscape and sends out vines in all directions on the ground softening a landscape beautifully. It can be used to cascade softly over a rock or concrete wall, or stairway. But the real fun with Ryu sei is to train the center trunk up several feet, or all the way up to 8-10 ft if desired, making a twisty sculptural center leader, which then sends long graceful vines of leaves down on all sides. Two can be trained on each side of a gate to form a gorgeous bower. Or espaliered along a fence. Or even made to grow in hanging baskets. In the wintertime, the bare trunk and branches form a striking artistic centerpiece sculpture that can be uplit from below. If trained up vertically, the tree will stay narrow and can be planted right by a front door or in a small alcove to really set it off. Spring and summer colors for Ryu sei are bright green, with a multitude of red, orange, and gold fall colors Beautiful variants of Ryu sei - Golden Falls and Dragon Master, with the same vining characteristics, have soft orange pink or yellow foliage in the spring and spectacular brilliant orange and yellow fall colors At our farm nursery, we carry scores of both Ryu sei, Golden Falls, and DragonMaster, starting in 8 gallon sizes at $185, and all the way up to large 25 gallon specimens and everything in-between. Ryu sei is hardy and easy to grow here in the PNW and can be planted in full all day sun or part sun conditions In addition to the above, we carry more than 3000 japanese maples of all sizes, colors, and forms, and more than 300 different maple varieties! Many truckloads of new maples have been added to the nursery this winter including new rare varieties Thanks! Dan
