China Platter, J&G Meakin, Hanley England, Chaplet pattern

The listing

This was apparently made between 1900-1919, due to the backstamp of England in Hanley, Staffordshire, England. The company was in business from 1851-2000. The platter measures about 14-1/2" x 10-1/2" and appears to be in excellent condition other than for a little bit of wear. The pattern is a form of flow blue transferware, known for its deep blue floral and scroll designs that "flow". It is edged in gold gilt (worn in a few places) and there is embossing on the platter, especially on each end. The bottom has an engraved "2" on it and "20" is in deep blue on the underside and the hallmark "Chaplet, Hanley, J&G Meakin and England" is on the underside, off center, more like on the edge, which seems unusual. The glaze was a bit uneven on the underside and there is one minor chip under the side rim, but it is not visible from above. $9 show contact info
