The listing

Matched pair of longshaft (OR shortshaft = i have both) 1962 Evinrude 28hp Speeditwin twin outboard motors, works with EITHER 20" OR for 25" transom and comes with COMPLETE original conversion parts. Both are electric start, purchased together as a matched set from the dealer. One motor has a DC generator: In 1962 charge dividers didn't exist so both engines share one battery and only one charges the battery. These motors come with a complete conversion kit and original factory matched extension section which can accommodate a 25" transom. I have the original matching, factory long shafts, shift rods, copper lines, and these motors can be easily modified to a super long shaft 25” setup. When sold new they were mounted on a 1962 18' Glasspar SeaFair Sunliner. The motors were run only a handful of times before the original owner died. The boat and motors were then stored in a "time capsule"/ indoor barn (literally) for the next 56 years. The second owner purchased the motors in 2018 and ran them through spring of 2020. He is a vintage motor dealer and enthusiast in Temecula, CA. and ran them on that same Glasspar rig. Fresh water for the duration of their existence. They each have approximately 100 hours of running time, and both appear in great condition cosmetically and mechanically. 100% OEM parts, down to every last fastener. The second owner with the original boat and these motors was awarded "Most Original Vintage Boat" at the 2019 Lake Arrowhead Classic Boat Show. You will not find another pair of anything this old, in this condition, for this price. Also included in this package is the Evinrude special twin-engine remote control with cables, original electrical junction boxes with harnesses, dash harnesses with ignition and choke switches, the steering connection linkage system and OMC ammeter for the charging system. You will also fail to find another twin remote control system of this style in this condition anywhere. I bought this setup because it was a one of a kind time machine and a true "barn find". I have a 1959 Dorsett Catalina which is a wonderful match for them. The second owner told me "if these were 40 hp motors we wouldn't be having this conversation." I knew then they were a prize, and I will wait for the perfect buyer. HOWEVER, I live on puget sound, and I realized these motors' design will cause them to degrade very quickly in the salt water. There is no way around this problem, and I think they should be on a fresh water lake somewhere, or on some beautiful boat trailer on the boat show circuit. They have never run in salt water. I have decided to repower my boat with a new 4-stroke motor designed for open water. I have run them in fresh water just a couple of times after rebuilding the carburetors at the end of last summer (2023), and have paid thousands for the dialing in of their steering, electrical, carburation, and ignition. THEY ARE CURRENTLY TUNED AND IN PERFECT, OPTIMIZED CONDITION, AND NOW HAVE VIDEO AVAILABLE OF THEM STARTING ICE COLD UPON REQUEST OF SERIOUS PARTIES My loss is quite clearly your gain. We are not going back to vintage, 2-stroke engines for our boat. They are currently garaged on stands and weigh approximately 125lbs each dry. I AM NOT LIKELY TO LOWER THE PRICE OF THESE MOTORS. HIGHLY (HIGHLY) REASONABLE OFFERS WILL BE ENTERTAINED. IF YOU ARE A NON-LOCAL BUYER WHERE THE SHIPPING COST WILL BE A FACTOR LET'S TALK IT THROUGH. Tons of extras, matching gas cans, lines, spare cowling, etc. Please be in touch with any questions you might have. Thank you! twin, dual, tandem, johnson, OMC, mercury, vintage, classic, antique
