Antique Thai Temple Rubbing: Celestial Musicians Large Hand-Pressed Wall Art
The listing
Antique Thai Temple Rubbing: Celestial Musicians Large Hand-Pressed Wall Art Own a piece of Thai temple art. This large, hand-made temple rubbing shows two celestial musicians in a graceful pose, one cradling a barrel drum and the other leaning in with her hand at her cheek. Every detail is captured in rich sepia tones: crowns, jewelry, flowing garments, and patterned skirts, down to the smiling faces. Temple rubbings like this are made by pressing thin paper into carved temple reliefs and working ink into the surface. That's why you can see the raised, sculpted texture in the paper. Flip it over and the impression of the carving is embossed on the back, which proves it's a true hand-pressed rubbing and not a printed poster.
